On 22nd August 2026, the New Model College, Mangkolemba and Mangkolemba Town Students’ Union (MTSU) jointly conducted a Career Awareness Programme on “Academics and Competitive Examinations” in MTSU Conference Hall. Students and Competitive Examination aspirants were eligible for the programme.
Dr. Khesheli Aye, Assistant Professor, NMC talked about the academic life from Classes 8 to Ph.D, highlighting that the academic life from Classes 8 to 10 is the foundation of one’s academic career. She cleared the misunderstanding that, clearing Class 10 exams decides one’s future and challenged the notion that science students are more intelligent. She emphasised that hard work, consistency and determination are more important than marks and grades in the past, and encouraged the students that it is never too late to start. She also pointed out that there are various opportunities in higher education, such as Masters, UGC-NET and B.Ed.
Mr. Potsiesie Kajiri, Assistant Professor, NMC discussed the competitive exams starting in school level to post school and Master’s level. He explained Examinations like NPSC Civil Services Exam, Technical and Education Services Exam, SSC CGL and CHSL Exam, UPSC Civil Services Exam, CDS Exam, Assistant Commandant Exam, IB ACIO and various Railway Exams. He also shared information on the eligibility and promotion criteria of various posts and urged the students to go for further studies like Economics, Sociology and Planning so that they can have more choices of career.
The programme was goal-oriented and interactive, Mr. Kajiri enquiring students’ future intentions and directing them as per their interests and achievements. In summary, the programme helped to increase students’ knowledge of their academic options, competitive exams, and various career paths, helping them make more informed and confident career choices.
