2 Day Workshop Conducted at NMC on 6-7 March 2026: Research Methodology and Field work on Community resource mapping and socio-economic Analysis.

Skill Development Committee in collaboration with the IQAC, New Model College, Mangkolemba arranged a Two Day Research Methodology and Fieldwork Workshop on Community Resource Mapping and Socio-Economic Analysis to the final year students as part of the experiential learning and development of research skills. The programme was graced by two resource persons, Dr. Benjongkumba, Principal, New Model College and Mrs. Thechano Kithan, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, HoD. The lesson was about acquiring students into the fundamental concepts of research methodology, field survey, and what the importance of community resource mapping is in comprehending the socio-economic status of affairs.

In the fieldwork section, the students were also taken to Hills Village and they carried out a field survey. The two groups of students were split to ascertain a systematic data collection and community interaction. Both groups engaged with locals and collected data on the nature of their households, their socio-economic status, the facilities and facilities of the infrastructure, and the community resources. Community mapping was also conducted during the field survey whereby students identified the important resources and institutions in the village including water sources, roads, community spaces, and other facilities in the village. The given exercise allowed the students to get the real life experience of field-based research and allowed them to comprehend the spatial distribution of resources in the community. The fieldwork activity was very helpful in terms of a practical experience in data collection, observation, and interaction with the community to enable the students put the theoretical concepts studied in the workshop into practical use. The students were also active participants in the survey process and showed interest in learning about the socio-economic dynamics of the village. At the end of the programme, the students were required to compile their findings and prepare to make group presentations that will be made within a week after the field survey had been completed. On the whole, the workshop proved to be effective at the level of increased research skills, analytical capacity of students, and their field-based learning experience. The programme committee would like to thank the resource persons and the villagers of Hills Village who cooperated and supported the committee to make the field survey fruitful and meaningful.
