On 28th April 2026, the Department of History and Political Science of New Model College, Mangkolemba hosted an Inter-Departmental Quiz Competition. The quiz was designed to increase the students’ knowledge, stimulate healthy competition and to ensure active participation from all departments.Ms. Rebecca Khiupur, Assistant Professor, Political Science Department, presided over the programme.
Mr. Potsiesie Kajiri, Head of the Department of Political Science, delivered the Welcome Address, adding an intellectually stimulating dimension to the event. In his address, he emphasized the significance of academic engagement beyond disciplinary boundaries, highlighting the interconnected nature of History and Political Science. He characterised the quiz not just as a test of memorisation, but also as a challenge of mental dexterity, critical thinking, and stress management.To the contestants, he urged them to see the competition as a chance to showcase their ability to think critically about complex concepts, tempered by the knowledge that “History is a lamp to the past, Politics is a compass to the future”. He also instilled in the students the ancient value of Sapere Aude – “Dare to know” – by encouraging them to be inquisitive and seek knowledge. He then officially called for the competition to begin.
The main attraction of the program was the quiz competition, where the students were divided into four groups. Questions ranged from topics on the history and politics of the Indian National Movement. The students showed a high degree of interest, confidence and preparation in the competition which was rewarding and stimulating.Mr. Viki (4th Semester) and Ms. Lanusenla (2nd Semester) won the 1st prize while Mr. Hongsa Yemlong and Mr. Lepzukkok (4th Semester) won the 2nd prize.
The event was concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. M.Rhondeno Yanthan, Assistant Professor, Department of History. The event was well-organised, successful and helped students to learn, cooperate and excel in their academic pursuit.
